Homicide; W 15th Avenue/Minnesota Drive

Update on 6/20/19:
The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Christopher M. Lebert.  Next-of-kin notification has been made.

Police are still asking for anyone with information regarding suspicious activity occurring in the following areas on the night of Tuesday, June 18th to contact APD:

  1. The Ship Creek, Railroad, and Port area between 6:30 p.m. and midnight.

  2. Area of Minnesota Parkway/L Street/15th Avenue between 11:30 p.m. and midnight.

  3. Turnagain area near Lynn-Ary Park between midnight and 12:30 a.m. the morning of Wednesday, June 19th. 


Update on 6/19/19:
This case is now being investigated as a homicide. This is not a hit and run investigation. How the victim died remains under investigation. The identity of the victim is not being released pending next-of-kin notification procedures.
 
The preliminary investigation found that a stolen 2004 grey-black Chevrolet Tahoe was pursuing a white and green motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was found deceased on southbound Minnesota Parkway near 15th Avenue. The suspect vehicle continued southbound and exited at Hillcrest Drive. The vehicle was located abandoned in the Turnagain area near Lynn-Ary Park.
 
The suspect vehicle was stolen from the Port of Alaska last night.
 
Detectives need witnesses to come forward with any information, specifically surveillance video. Specifically, if you saw, heard or recorded anything suspicious in three locations:

  1. Port of Alaska last night between 6:30 p.m. and midnight.

  2. Area of Minnesota Parkway/L Street/15th Avenue last night between 11:30 p.m. and midnight.

  3. Turnagain area near Lynn-Ary Park this morning between midnight and 12:30 a.m.

 
Anyone with information, including surveillance video, should call Dispatch at 311 or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP.

Officers with the Patrol Division are on the scene of a fatal traffic investigation on southbound Minnesota Parkway near West 15th Avenue.
 
They located a deceased male and a motorcycle.
 
Southbound Minnesota Parkway in the area is closed due to the investigation. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes at this time.
 
Officers are looking for a black or dark colored SUV believed to be involved in this investigation.
