Injury Collision Investigation at Benson Bl/Arctic Bl Intersection

Update on 7/10/23:

On July 9, 2023, Anchorage Police were notified that the victim succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on May 17th.  He has been identified as 63-year-old Lewis Olson.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Update at 7:10 PM on 5/8/23:

Initial indications are that the adult male pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck by a pickup truck that was being driven eastbound on W Benson Boulevard, east of Arctic Boulevard, in the far left-hand lane.  The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk.

The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and has been cooperative with police.  No citations have been issued; the investigation is ongoing. 

All lanes are now open.

At 3:42 PM on May 8, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at the intersection of Arctic Boulevard and W Benson Boulevard.  The adult male pedestrian has been transported to a hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.

The Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) has responded to process the scene; a drone will be used during the investigation. The northbound and southbound lanes of Arctic are open.  The two left eastbound lanes of W Benson are shut down at the intersection with Arctic; merge right to travel east.
