Jaycee Herrmann arrested after trying to sell a stolen gun
At 4:49 PM on May 15, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a residence on the 4200-block of Greenland Drive regarding a burglary. The homeowner discovered a handgun was missing from his home. There was no sign of forced entry. It was thought entry into the residence may have been made through an unlocked window. The owner provided the officer with the serial number of the missing gun which was subsequently entered into both APSIN (statewide database) and NCIC (nationwide database) as stolen.
At 1:30 PM on May 23rd, an employee at Alaska Fast Cash notified APD Dispatch that someone was trying to sell a stolen gun. Officers responded to the business at 2520 E Tudor Road and confronted the suspect, 23-year-old Jaycee C. Herrmann, who was near the front counter. When the officers reached for Herrmann to place him in cuffs, Herrmann bolted down an aisle and out the front door. Officers pursued on foot northbound across Tudor Road through traffic. As officers closed the distance between them and Herrmann, Herrmann stopped running in front of a business on the 2000-block of E Tudor Road and raised his hands in the air. Herrmann followed the officers’ instructions from then on and was taken into custody without further incident.
Herrmann was transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives. Afterwards he was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Theft II, Misconduct Involving a Weapon III – Felon in Possession, Resisting Arrest, and Reckless Endangerment.

This case serves as a great reminder as to how important it is to keep the serial numbers of your property recorded in a safe place. In the event the property is stolen or lost, reporting that serial number to law enforcement increases the chances of the property being returned to you should it be recovered.
