At 8:54 PM on May 30, 2022, Officers assigned to Swing Shift Patrol responded to Carrs Midtown located at 2920 Seward Highway in reference to a robbery in progress involving a deadly weapon. Initial indications show that the suspect threatened store employees with a machete as he was stealing liquor. As officers were in route, it was reported that the male suspect had left the store on foot.
Officers arrived in the area of Fireweed Lane and Gambell Street and located the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Joshua J. Chiskok. Officers gave Chiskok numerous less lethal commands and K9 warnings to stop, which were ignored and Chiskok continued to flee on foot.
While attempting to contact Chiskok, he stabbed himself in the upper body with the weapon. Officers deployed 40mm foam batons, but Chiskok remained armed and continued to ignore officer commands to drop the weapon. K9 OB was released and subsequently apprehended Chiskok by biting him in the upper body. The officers were able to take Chiskok into custody without further incident
