Lisa Williams Charged in Attempted Bicycle Theft

At 9:11 PM on June 17, 2024, an APD officer assigned to the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit (IDEU) responded to a business parking lot located in the southeast corner of Minnesota Drive and W Northern Lights Boulevard for an unrelated issued when he heard a nearby teenaged juvenile begin to yell about a bike.

The officer looked over and saw an adult female trying to ride away on a bike that had been left outside the business’ front door.  The juvenile was depressing the bicycle’s brake to stop the theft from occurring. The officer ran over, removed the female from the bike, and secured her in handcuffs.  Inside the woman’s backpack were items she had stolen from inside the business.

56-year-old Lisa M. Williams was remanded at Hiland Mountain Correctional for Theft in the Second Degree.

Additional Information:  There were three juveniles together.  Two had gone inside the business while the third waited outside to keep an eye on their bikes.  APD is appreciative to the juvenile who quickly alerted the officer to the attempted theft.  The child who owned the bike was able to contact his mother who texted a photo of the bike’s serial number as proof of ownership.  This is a great example of why it’s important to keep serial numbers.  APD often recovers property that is suspected to have been stolen, but then has a difficult time returning it when the owner is unable to prove ownership.
