Jorge Aular Charged in Assault Investigation

At 9:42 PM on June 17, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to the 3500-block of Mountain View Drive regarding a disturbance involving a knife.  It was relayed to Dispatch the suspect was “very high.”  Initial indications are that an adult male and adult female were outside their home when another resident in the trailer park, 29-year-old Jorge Aular, walked up to them.  Some type of interaction occurred between the two men.  Aular left but then returned with a large knife.  Aular made motions with the knife which put the male and female in fear of immediate physical harm.  Ultimately Aular walked away without hurting anyone.

Witnesses showed arriving officers where Aular lived.  Swing shift patrol officers and K9 formed a perimeter around the trailer and issued several commands with a police vehicle’s PA system.  Aular eventually emerged from the trailer, and initially complied with some of the instructions given to him.  Ultimately Aular became non-compliant and began reaching into a bag he had strapped on his person causing concern that he may have the knife or another weapon on his person.  After several more warnings and commands went ignored, to include less lethal/K9 warnings, a Taser was deployed twice.  Neither deployment was effective.  K9 AC was released; he contacted Aular’s hip which allowed officers to place Aular into handcuffs.

Throughout their interactions with Aular, officers witnessed erratic behavior and several signs of impairment. Aular was transported to a hospital for treatment of the bite.  He was subsequently remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on one count of Resisting and two counts of Assault III.
