Update on 1/15/25:

On January 7, 2025, just before 2:00 PM, Anchorage Police responded to a robbery in progress near the 500 block of Northern Lights Blvd.

A female victim, bound with tape, entered a nearby business seeking help. Responding officers were informed the suspect was attempting to break into an ATM at the victim’s location and was armed with a gun.

Upon arrival, one officer assisted the victim while another spotted a male matching the suspect's description fleeing the scene. The officer issued multiple commands for the suspect to stop. Based on the violent felonies already committed and the threat posed by the suspect, the officer discharged his weapon. The suspect, who was armed, was struck multiple times in the upper body.

The incident was recorded on the officer's body-worn camera (BWC). All officers involved have been interviewed. The suspect is receiving medical care and has been charged with Robbery 1, with additional charges pending.

Update on 1/10/25:

Per policy, the state’s Office of Special Prosecutions (OSP) will review the officers’ use of force and determine whether it was justified. Once that has been completed, APD Internal Affairs will review the officers’ actions to confirm whether there was any violation of policy. As per APD practice the officers will be placed on four days of administrative leave. Once OSP has completed their investigation, their findings will be available for the public to review.

The officer that discharged his weapon has been identified as Ofc. William Parry. Ofc. Parry was hired in June 2016.
