ARREST BY K9: 900-BLOCK Richardson Vista Road

Suspect is in custody, and there is no public safety threat.

At 11:14 PM, Oct. 12, 2024, APD Dispatch received multiple calls regarding a male in the vicinity of the 900-block of Richardson Vista. The suspect was reported as holding a large knife, hitting cars and slashing tires on vehicles in the parking lot.  

When officers arrived, they contacted the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Patrick Moran.

Moran barricaded himself in an apartment with the knife still visible and then began to set the apartment on fire. 

As officers helped residents evacuate, the suspect confronted officers. Officers ultimately apprehended the suspect using less lethal options, including the aid of K9 Ray, who held on to the suspect so officers could safely take him into custody.

Moran was transported to a local hospital, where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. He was later transported to Anchorage City Jail (ACJ), where he was remanded on four (4) counts of Assault III, Criminal Mischief III, Arson I and Reckless Endangerment.

The Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) responded to the scene.

None of the officers involved nor K9 Ray were injured during the incident.

At 11:14 PM, Oct. 12, 2024, officers assigned to Patrol were dispatched to the 900-block Richardson Vista Road in reference to a disturbance. It was reported a male suspect was holding a knife, yelling and destroying property.

When officers arrived, they contacted the suspect, who then barricaded himself in an apartment with the knife still visible. The suspect then began to set the apartment on fire.  

As officers began to help residents evacuate, the suspect confronted officers. Officers ultimately apprehended the suspect using less lethal options. 

The Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) is currently responding to the scene, which is still active.

Richardson Vista Rd. remains closed currently. Please avoid the area.
