Previn Deveroux charged in Assault incident at a hotel

At 10:35 PM on December 7, 2021, Anchorage Police responded to the Aptel Studio Hotel at 624 Rodeo Place regarding a male with a knife who was screaming.  While officers were in route, they were notified the suspect had pulled the fire alarm.  As hotel guests were exiting the building due to the alarm, the suspect was confronting them with his knife.

When the first officer pulled into the parking lot, the suspect ran straight towards the patrol car with the knife in one of his hands.  The officer slowly backed his patrol car up for the purpose of getting the suspect to follow him away from where all the other citizens were standing.  The suspect did follow the patrol car away from the people.  After they were a good distance away, the officer used his patrol vehicle’s PA system to give the suspect commands.  The suspect was compliant, dropped the knife, and was taken into custody without incident.

During the pat search of 35-year-old Previn R. Deveroux II, meth was found on his person.  Deveroux was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Criminal Mischief IV – Tamper with Fire Protection Device, Assault III, Criminal Mischief V, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V.  There were no injuries.
