At 12:57 AM on April 17, 2023, APD Dispatch began receiving calls from citizens reporting they had heard multiple gunshots on the 7400-block of Woburn Circle.  Nearby officers advised they heard several shots as well.  Upon arrival officers immediately contacted the suspect outside and took him into custody.

Initial indications are that 33-year-old Rennard R. Smith discharged a handgun multiple times outside his residence.  Bullets hit his own apartment along with the apartment next door.  Officers checked both locations, to include the surrounding area, but did not find anyone who had been injured.  The motive for the shooting is still under investigation; alcohol appears to have been a factor.

Smith was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Misconduct Involving a Weapon II and Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV.
