Shelena Falani and Alexander Lemana Facing Several Charges
At 11 PM on August 31, 2024, Anchorage Police Swing Shift Patrol Officers responded to Walmart located at 7405 Debarr Road. The preliminary investigation indicated that two females had left the store without paying for approximately $200 worth of merchandise. One of the female suspects made threats of harm towards a security guard and other store employees. It was reported the handle of a handgun could be seen sticking out of the clothing worn by the suspect who made the threat. A gunshot was heard as the two suspects drove away.
As the investigation progressed, the armed suspect was identified as 29-year-old Shelena A. Falani. A felony warrant was obtained for her arrest for the charges of Robbery in the First Degree, two counts of Assault in the Third Degree, and Theft in the Fourth Degree. Efforts to locate her were unsuccessful. The vehicle Shelena had fled in was also identified.
At 3:40 AM on September 15, 2024, an Anchorage Police Mid-Shift Patrol Officer conducted a traffic stop on the 400-block of N Flower Street. The black Chevy Malibu was the getaway car used in the robbery two weeks prior. Initially the adult male driver attempted to drive away but the officer used his patrol vehicle to block the Malibu in. Both occupants fled from the car on foot. While running, 30-year-old Alexander S. Lemana tossed a handgun and a jacket. Officers caught up to Lemana and took him into custody; Lemana physically resisted throughout the handcuffing process. The handgun and jacket were recovered. A computer check revealed the gun had been reported as stolen over two years earlier. Methamphetamine was located in the jacket’s interior pocket.
Alexander Lemana was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on an existing warrant. He was additionally charged with Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Third Degree – Felon in Possession, Theft in the Second Degree – Firearm, Resisting Arrest, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree.
The second runner was the robbery suspect, Shelena Falani. She entered an apartment complex on the 400-block of N Flower Street. Officers formed a perimeter around the building and then began making announcements. Falani eventually complied and was taken into custody without incident. Upon the completion of her interview with a detective, she was remanded at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center on her felony warrant.
The second female suspect, who was with Shelena Falani at Walmart on August 31st, is still outstanding.
