Shooting Investigation Near W 2nd Av and H St

At 11:08 PM on August 16, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to the report of a shooting near W 2nd Avenue and H Street.  Upon arrival officers located an adult male walking nearby who had at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.  He was transported to a hospital by AFD Medics for treatment of the non-life-threatening injury.

Initial indications are that the victim and suspect were both outside.  They got into some type of an altercation that turned physical and culminated in the suspect shooting the victim.  What led to the two interacting, and whether they were known to one another ahead of time, is still under investigation.

The suspect has been described as an adult white male, 5’10” – 6’00” tall with a thin build.  He was last seen wearing all black clothing and black boots.  He was on a black mountain bike and had a small brown dog with him.  He may have injuries to his face.  It should be assumed he is still armed with a handgun.
