Steven Lawrence arrested by K9 Rylin in burglary investigation

At 3:34 PM on August 22, 2022, day shift patrol officers received information that 61-year-old Steven H. Lawrence was inside a residence near Schodde Street and Thompson Avenue.  The house was unoccupied and under construction.  Officers contacted the owner of the property and confirmed that no one should be inside.  Lawrence had an outstanding felony warrant stemming from the original charges of Burglary II, Theft II, Escape II, Criminal Mischief, and Resisting Arrest.  Officers made multiple announcements for Lawrence to come out of the house, but Lawrence did not respond.  After obtaining a search warrant, officers made entry with a K9; several K9 warnings were also given.

After clearing the first floor of the residence, officers made their way to the second floor where K9 Rylin alerted that she had located a person hiding in a space between the walls and the roof.  Several more commands were issued by police for Lawrence to come out, but Lawrence refused.  K9 Rylin was deployed; she contacted Lawrence in his mid-section which allowed officers to take Lawrence into custody.

Once Lawrence was treated at a hospital for the dog bite, he was transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.  Afterwards he was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrant.  He was additionally charged with Resisting and Burglary I.
