Timothy Stepetin arrested after firing a weapon inside a vehicle

At 7:50 PM on December 25, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to the area of E 20th Avenue and Bragaw Street regarding reports of a shot being fired inside a vehicle.  Initial indications are that a rideshare driver picked up 38-year-old Timothy L. Stepetin who appeared to be intoxicated.  At some point during the ride, Stepetin produced a handgun and fired a single shot.  Being in fear of immediate physical injury, the driver was able to pull over, disarm the passenger, exit the vehicle, and call police.

Upon arrival officers took Stepetin into custody from inside the van.  Officers saw a bullet hole in the second-row passenger seat where Stepetin had been sitting.  Officers confiscated the weapon as Evidence; the driver had set the gun on the hood of the vehicle prior to police arrival.

Stepetin’s pants were damaged from the gun discharge, but Stepetin’s body was not injured.  Stepetin was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Criminal Mischief IV – Property Damage, Misconduct Involving a Weapon I, Misconduct Involving a Weapon III, Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Possess while Intoxicated, and Assault III.

The driver was not injured.
