Traffic Investigation: Minnesota and W 25th Avenue
Update on 3/9/23:
The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Jason Collins. Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
Update at 7PM on 3/7/23:
On March 07, 2023 at 12:04 PM, Anchorage Police Traffic Unit and Day Shift Patrol Officers and medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to northbound Minnesota Drive at the Hillcrest overpass in reference to a vehicle collision with injuries.
The preliminary investigation found that a commercial vehicle transporting heavy machinery was traveling northbound on Minnesota when the equipment it was transporting struck the Hillcrest overpass. An SUV that was also traveling northbound on Minnesota struck part of the equipment which was dislodged from the commercial vehicle. The adult male driver of the SUV was declared deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the commercial vehicle were uninjured.
The northbound lane of Minnesota and the Hillcrest Overpass were closed for several hours while investigators with the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) processed the scene. All roads are now reopened.
The driver of the commercial vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
Update at 5:10 PM on 3/7/23:
Northbound Minnesota is now open to 26th Avenue. Everything North of that, and the bridge, remain closed.

At 12:04 PM on March 07, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a injury collision on Northbound Minnesota at W 25th. Northbound Minnesota is currently closed between Northern Lights Blvd and W 15th Avenue. The Hillcrest Overpass is also closed. The area is shut down while officers work the scene. Please avoid the area.
The Southbound Minnesota lanes remain open. Officers will be using the drone during this investigation.
