Vehicle Fatality Investigation Near Debarr Rd and Bragaw St

The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Danielle Washington.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

At 6:35 AM on September 8, 2024, Anchorage Police Mid-Shift Patrol Officers responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Debarr Road just east of the intersection with Bragaw Street.   The preliminary investigation indicates that a collision occurred between a westbound Dodge pickup, and an adult pedestrian who was crossing northbound across Debarr outside of a crosswalk.

Citizens performed life-saving measures on the victim.  AFD Medics transported the pedestrian to a local hospital; the victim succumbed to injuries sustained shortly thereafter.  The driver stayed at the scene and has been cooperative with police.

The dynamics of the crash are still under investigation; no charges have been filed.

The Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) has responded to process the area.  The westbound lanes of Debarr, prior to the intersections with Bragaw (the section directly to the south of Costco), are closed while that occurs.  The roadway will re-open once a tow truck has responded and removed the involved vehicle. 

The victim’s identity will be released after next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
