Victim Identified in last Saturday morning’s fatal collision

Update on 3/21/22:

The victim has been identified as 59-year-old Linda Baxter.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

All lanes of 5th avenue open.

Update on 3/19/22 @ 4:50 AM:
On 3/19/22 at 1:57 AM, mid-shift patrol officers responded to 5th Avenue and Karluk Street in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

The preliminary investigation found that a white Ford F150 was traveling westbound on 5th Avenue near Karluk Street when an adult female pedestrian began to cross 5th Avenue in or near a crosswalk and was struck by the vehicle. Patrol Officers and Medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded immediately; the female pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene. The driver remained on scene and has been cooperative with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

All lanes of 5th Avenue at Karluk Street will remain closed while investigators with the Major Collision Investigation Unit process the scene.  Please use alternative routes.

The victim's identity will be released pending next-of-kin procedures.

All lanes of westbound 5th AVE are closed at Karluk while APD investigates a vehicle collision with injuries. Please avoid the area if possible.
