Welcome 2022! Watch the fireworks Downtown and not at your house.
For those of you old enough to remember…. Do you recall what a big deal New Year’s Eve 1999 was? And how crazy it sounded that we were entering the year 2000? How was that 22 years ago already? Wasn’t 2010 just five years ago? Time is flying by at warp speed but the law regarding firework deployment within the Municipality of Anchorage remains the same – it’s not allowed. If you do so anyway your exploding devices will be confiscated, and you could face a fine of up to $300*. So please just don’t. The neighborhood dogs don’t want you too either.
If you think the New Year just isn’t brought in properly without fireworks, bundle up in all your warm Alaska gear and head on downtown to the parking lot at W 3rd Avenue and E Street for the New Year’s Eve Fireworks show set to begin at 8PM. We’ll have extra officers in the area for the event so please come over and say, “Hello.” The New Year’s Eve Celebration is brought to by the Anchorage Downtown Partnership. Click on the link to learn more about all the activities they have planned for the evening of December 31st from 7PM – 9PM.
The extra OUI patrols** we talked about last week are still in full force. Plan for a safe way home after you’ve celebrated the night away. DO NOT get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol, marijuana, or any other substance that alters your mental state.
From all of us at APD to all of you – Happy 2022!!
*Anchorage Municipal Code 14.70.180 covers the use of Fireworks. To read the ordinance in its entirety, visit www.anchoragepolice.com.
**The OUI traffic patrols are brought to you by a grant from the Alaska Highway Safety Office.
