Original on 9/16/24:

At 4:44 PM on September 16, 2024, Anchorage Police Swing Shift Patrol Officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash.  Initial indications are that a school bus (vehicle #1) was traveling eastbound on E Tudor Rod, prior to Laurel Street, when it rear-ended a green Chevy Silverado pickup (vehicle #2).  That impact caused the green pickup to rear end a red Chevy Silverado pickup (vehicle #3). The red pickup then rear-ended a silver Nissan SUV (vehicle #4).

The adult male driver of vehicle #2 was transported to a local hospital by AFD Medics; he was declared deceased a short time later.

The other three drivers all stayed at the scene and are cooperating with police.  The cause of the crash is still under investigation; no charges have been filed.  There was one child on the bus at the time of the collision.  The juvenile did not require any medical attention and was picked up at the scene by a parent.

The Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) has responded to process the site.  All eastbound lanes of E Tudor Road between Lake Otis Parkway and Folker Street will be closed while that occurs.

The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
