Fatality Investigation at W Dimond Boulevard/Jewel Lake Road

UPDATE – 11/10/22

The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Janice Alpiak.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

W Dimond Blvd/Jewel Lake Rd, all lanes are now open.
Update--7:50PM--11/08/22
At 05:14 PM on November 08, 2022, officers assigned to swing shift patrol and medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the intersection of West Dimond Boulevard and Jewel Lake Road in reference to a vehicle collision with injuries.
 
The preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford F350 was traveling eastbound on W Dimond Boulevard at the same time a Chevy Impala was traveling westbound on W Dimond Boulevard. The Chevy Impala turned left to go southbound on Jewel Lake Road when it was struck by the Ford F350.
 
Medics arrived and transported the adult male driver of the Chevy Impala to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The adult female passenger of the Chevy Impala was transported by medics to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries. The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
 
The driver of the F350 remained on the scene and did not have any injuries. There were no other passengers in the F350.
 
All eastbound lanes of W Dimond Blvd at the intersection of W Dimond Blvd and Jewel Lake Rd remain closed while investigators with the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) process the scene. A drone may be used in the investigation. Please use alternative routes.
 
The circumstances of the collision are still under investigation. No citations have been issued.

All eastbound lanes of W Dimond Blvd at the intersection of W Dimond Blvd and Jewel Lake Rd are closed while officers investigate a vehicle collision with injuries.  Officers are requesting drivers in the area find alternate routes.
