Vehicle vs Bicycle Fatality Investigation – A Street/Benson Boulevard
Update on 11/8/22:
Initial indications are that the vehicle was travelling eastbound on a green light when it collided with a bicyclist who was crossing the road northbound against a red light.
The victim has been identified as 72-year-old Frank Guertin. Next-of-kin notification has been made.

Update on 10/21/22 at 11:55PM:
On October 21, 2022, at 10:41 PM, Anchorage Police and medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the intersection of A Street and Benson Boulevard in reference to a vehicle versus bicyclist collision.
The preliminary investigation found that an adult male driving a cab was traveling Eastbound on Benson Blvd and collided with the adult male bicyclist in the crosswalk. The adult male bicyclist was declared deceased at the scene. The area will remain closed while investigators with the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) process the scene. Please use alternative routes.
The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Multiple road closures for collision with injury. A St is closed between 32nd and Northern Lights, and Benson is closed between C St and Denali. Please avoid the area.
