Homicide; 200-block Denali Street

Update on 5/17/17:

At 8:13 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Police Dispatch began receiving several calls regarding a loud verbal altercation taking place at a home located on the 200-block of Denali Street.  Before police arrived on scene, Dispatch was advised that someone had been shot.

The structure is a single-family home with rooms that are rented out to different individuals.  63-year-old Yolanda Castro is the landlord of the home and had been staying in one of the rooms while making repairs on the entire house.  On May 16th Yolanda changed the locks on the exterior doors.  One of the rooms was being rented by a female; that female had been staying in the room along with 40-year-old Liteh Fogg.  The tenant and Fogg were not at home when the locks were changed.

At around 8PM the tenant, Fogg, and another female friend arrived at the residence and discovered they could not get in.  The three women went around to the back of the house where Fogg found a ladder and used it to crawl on top of a shed.  From the top of the shed, Fogg attempted to open the window of the room she had been staying in.  Castro and two other individuals were inside the room at the time Fogg was trying to gain access.  A verbal argument ensued between Fogg and Castro when Castro shot Fogg with a shotgun.  Fogg was declared deceased at the scene.

At the time of the shooting there were a total of four people inside the residence (another tenant of the home was in her own room). No one else was injured.  Several people were transported to APD for questioning.

Castro was charged with Murder I and II and was transported to the Anchorage Jail.
