Homicide; 9700-block Dinaaka Drive in Eagle River

On September 10, 2014, at 10:24 PM, APD received a phone call from a man who stated a family member had just told him that he’d strangled and killed his girlfriend and that she was in his vehicle. The suspect, David Joseph Thomas, 28, left the residence with the deceased in his car after that same family member told Thomas he was going to call police. About 15 minutes later, the suspect called APD and said he was at the Walgreens parking lot in Eagle River and that he wanted to surrender to police. Officers responded to the location and took Thomas into custody without incident. In the back seat of the vehicle, officers found the body of a 19-year-old female. Next of kin has been notified.

Officers are conducting investigations at the residence of the suspect, located at the 9700 block of Dinaaka Drive in Eagle River, as well as the parking lot of the Walgreens located at 12051 Old Glenn Highway.

Thomas was taken to APD Headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives. Thomas was charged with Murder 1 and Murder 2. He was taken to the Anchorage Jail where he is being held without bail.
