Homicide; Barratt Inn at 4610 Spenard Road

The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Javon Diggs.  His next of kin have been notified.

Update on 2/17/19 at 7:20 AM:
20-year-old Theandrea Ignacio Luster was arrested for the homicide at the Barratt Inn.  He was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Murder I, Murder II, Misconduct Involving a Weapon II, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon III.

Initial indications are that there was some type of verbal disturbance between the victim, who was a Barratt Inn employee, and the suspect which led to the shooting inside the hotel.  It is unknown at this time whether or not the two knew one another prior to this incident.

The name of the deceased will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

At 8:54 PM on Saturday, February 16, 2019, Anchorage Police responded to the Barratt Inn at 4610 Spenard Road in reference to a shooting.  Upon arrival officers located an adult male with a gunshot wound inside the building; he was declared deceased shortly thereafter.  

There is no one in custody at this time and no suspect description to release as of now.  There is a large police presence both at the hotel and in the nearby vicinity; please avoid the area.  APD is asking for anyone with information regarding this incident, to include those with surveillance footage, to contact Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1).
