Police Investigation on the 4200-block of Greenland Dr

Update at 10:40 AM on 10/6/24:

At 8:27 AM Anchorage Police responded to reports of an adult male who was experiencing a mental health crisis. It was relayed to Dispatch the male was inside a residence and had access to loaded firearms.

Officers arrived at the scene at 8:32 AM.  They set up a perimeter outside the home and attempted to contact the male who was alone; the one other person who had been inside had safely exited.  After their attempts to speak with the man went unanswered, officers made the decision to leave the area as there was no public safety threat and no crimes had been committed.  As officers were in the process of clearing the scene, they reported the male had fired shots at them at 8:55 AM.  Several more shots were fired by the suspect throughout the call.  No shots were fired by APD, and no officers were injured.

A drone was deployed inside the home.  At 10:03 AM officers saw via the drone’s camera that the suspect appeared to be deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  SWAT subsequently entered the house and confirmed no one else was injured inside.  Ultimately the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

There will be a continued police presence on Greenland Drive while the scene is being processed.  Thank you for your cooperation.
