At 3:35 AM on December 29, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to the 9600-block of Morningside Drive regarding reports of an adult female driver who had hit four cars in an apartment complex parking lot.  Initial indications are that 38-year-old Victoria L. Hanson drove a 2013 Dodge Ram at a high rate of speed in the parking lot striking a 2017 red Chevy.  The Ram bounced off the Chevy and hit a 1986 blue Toyota.  The Toyota was pushed into a 2013 silver Mazda which subsequently struck a 2001 blue Nissan.  Except for the Dodge Victoria was driving, the other involved vehicles were all parked and unoccupied at the time of the collisions.  Immediately after the crashes, Victoria (who had been the sole occupant in the Dodge when she crashed it) walked into a nearby apartment and then exited with three juvenile children.  The four of them walked southbound.

Upon arrival officers were contacted by people who had witnessed Victoria’s driving behavior.  A locate for Victoria and the children was aired over the radio.  Another responding officer found them approximately one block away from the scene.

Victoria and the kids were transported back to the apartment complex.  Victoria showed signs of impairment.  Officers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). At the conclusion of the tests, the decision was made to charge Victoria with Operating under the Influence.  She was driven to the Anchorage Correctional Complex for further processing.  While there, Victoria provided a breath sample showing her breath alcohol content was more than two and a half times the legal limit.  Victoria was remanded at Hiland Correctional on the charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, OUI, and three counts of Child Neglect. She was cited for No Valid Driver’s License and No Proof of Insurance.

After Victoria was placed under arrest, the children’s father returned to the building in a ride-share vehicle.  35-year-old Derek I. Hanson, who showed signs of intoxication, was approached by officers in a hallway inside the apartment complex.  Derek became very loud, verbally abusive, and uncooperative with the officers.  After ignoring several warnings from police to lower his voice so as to not wake the other tenants in the building, the decision was made to charge Derek with Disorderly Conduct.  He was handcuffed and escorted outside to a police car.  While officers were trying to seat Derek into the patrol vehicle’s rear seat, Derek spit into the face of one of the officers.  Derek was fitted with a spit hood and subsequently transported to the Anchorage Correctional Complex where he was remanded on two counts of Disorderly Conduct.  One count was for loud noise and the other was for spitting on police.

A relative responded to the scene and took custody of the three kids.  During the time Victoria was driving, she had left the children alone in the apartment.  All of them are under the age of ten.
